What’s for dinner honey?

I just want to share my success on dinner preparation. I have been doing this for a month now and I am very happy with the result.

I work full time, and when I get home obviously I am already very tired to cook. Although I am Cook, I cook everyday, but geez! We all get tired. So, a month ago, when I was at Sweetbay Supermarket, I looked at ready to prepare non frozen foods. I wanted to have variation for our family dinner  on carbohydrates. I grew up eating rice 3-5x a day, so my brain thinks that way too. But I have to consider, that my husband is an American. He doesn’t eat rice 3-5x a day!

So, because of my passion for different kinds of  food and love for my husband, I looked at the ready to prepare carbohydrates. I got mashed potato, jambalaya, yellow rice, chow mien , pasta and cuscus. Right on that moment, I thought, why not check the frozen foods section too.

Then I saw, lasagna, meatloaf, salisbury steak, beef with broccoli, 3 Cheese chicken. Then I went to the low fat dessert, like dulce leche, pudding, cake, muffins. I moved on to the snacks, small packaged cheetos, baked hips and low fat pretzels.

Took some brown and chicken gravy in a can and got me some fresh vegetables. Like tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, bell pepper, onions. I got some canned vegetables too, like  sweet corn, green cut beans, beets, water chestnuts, green peas.

Here’s the sample of my menu planner :

Finally I got a really nice silk orchid that looks real :) Yumi just can’t stop sniffing it :-D

By the way the total of my grocery was $100 and I planned 8 meals out of it. That’s $12.50 per meal for 2 people. Not bad! Compared to $25-30 when we go out to eat everyday.

The result, I call or text Keith (my husband) during my break to ask him to prepare the dinner ahead of time. Since I know what’s-for-dinner, he can just get those frozen foods and put in the oven. When I get home, dinner is ready. Yeah, you got it right, hubby is cooking for dinner :-D Leverage eh ;-)

There’s a lot of variation and it taste good.

By the way, I have a favorite “magic seasoning” that I use to almost all the food that I make. I posted that on my previous blog. Lemon grass is also one of my favorite herb to add to these ready to bake or easy-to-prepare food to make it more interesting.

We got to do what we have to do to make our living happy and easy. Taste different kinds of foods from all over the world. Besides we live in a magical world now!

Next week,  I will get that 2 pcs of lamb ready to cook in the oven. Paired with Cuscus and green veggies. It will be Middle Eastern night then! I’ll take a picture and show it to you.

I usually do my groceries on my day off and do my meal planning in Sweetbay. Sweetbay rocks! Love meal planning for the family!
